Your expertise in PLC programming and automation doesn't just keep production running, it ensures that every vial, every dose, reaches the people who need it most. Your new role

As a PLC & Automation Engineer, you'll be the technical expert keeping our filling line operations running smoothly and efficiently. You'll dive deep into PLC software, servo drives, robotic systems and electronic hardware – reading and optimising code that directly supports our filling processes. This role combines hands-on troubleshooting with strategic thinking, as you work to solve complex technical challenges while driving continuous improvement.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing first-line and expert-level automation support for aseptic filling line operations, ensuring reliable production of life-saving medicines
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining Siemens PLC systems using TIA Portal (STEP 7, WinCC), including reading and modifying PLC programs in ladder logic and function blocks
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Siemens HMI solutions and supporting specialized equipment including Optima filling equipment, SIRM inspection systems and Technicon handling systems
  • Supporting collaborative and industrial robots (e.g. Universal Robots or equivalent) to optimize automated processes
  • Participating in root cause analysis, deviation investigations and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment performance
  • Collaborating with vendors during upgrades, FAT/SAT activities and change implementations
  • Ensuring all work complies with GMP requirements and site procedures, including participation in audits and inspections

 

The position is part of a 24/7 on-call phone system once every 5 weeks.

This is a high-tech manufacturing environment where your automation expertise directly impacts our ability to deliver medicines reliably and safely to millions of patients. Working at the intersection of advanced technology and pharmaceutical manufacturing, you'll collaborate daily with operators, skilled workers, process support teams and external vendors to maintain operational excellence.

 

Your skills & qualifications

We're looking for a technically skilled automation engineer who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys solving complex problems. You'll bring with you:

  • A degree in IT, Engineering or similar technical education with further specialization in automation or controls
  • +5 years of experience with PLC programming (particularly Siemens systems), HMI configuration, and troubleshooting in a pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environment
  • Strong hands-on expertise with technical equipment including servo drives, robotic systems, and electronic hardware. You're comfortable on the production floor.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a solution-oriented mindset that focuses on what's necessary and sufficient
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, you can guide and communicate effectively with everyone from operators to managers
  • Independence and personal initiative in organizing your work, proposing solutions and driving continuous improvement
  • Understanding of GMP requirements and pharmaceutical quality standards
