In Clayton, NC, we now operate two adjacent pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. 

Our Clayton, NC Injectable Finished Products (IFP) facility is a 457,000 square foot aseptic "fill and finish" site that is responsible for producing innovative, injectable diabetes and obesity treatments. Position Purpose

Provides direction, leads, & manages the development & implementation of major site capacity & upfit projects, including the warehouse, facilities, recreational amenities & potential FP expansions at IFP Clayton. Location & technical solutions must be defined to best suit NN needs. Directs, coordinates, & supervises the project-related activities of a diverse implementation team consisting of functional & technical staff.  Scope of responsibility is from the initiation of the capital project through the release & turnover to the system owner. Ensure a minimum business impact on existing production organization in IFP Clayton, by timely execution of the project & by building a project organization next to existing organization. This requires a high focus on external hires of competencies & talents where possible. Organization is expected to exceed 50 employees.



  • Leads, directs, & coordinates the project management team in the design of the overall project, & in the development of the implementation plan & project timelines (+3B DKK total project cost)
  • Identifies & develops working relationships with affected customers at all levels; ensures that customer representatives are kept appropriately informed of project activities & are encouraged to participate as appropriate
  • Advises process teams representing customer needs regarding cross-functional considerations, workflow integration & coordination, & optimization of best practices
  • Provides & ensures communication with & between project & customer management at critical points in the implementation of the project plan
  • Identifies, secures, & coordinates implementation of internal & external resources & expertise as appropriate to achieve project objectives
  • Ensures that the project is proceeding according to timelines, meeting targets & expectations, & adhering to established operating parameters; negotiates changes in project resources as necessary to achieve objectives & timelines
  • Designs, establishes, & maintains an organizational structure & staffing to effectively accomplish the goals & objectives of the project; recruits, trains, oversees, & deploys technical & functional staff as appropriate
  • Develops & manages the transition work plans for all project team members, to include transition into the project & back to home departments upon completion
  • Oversees the supervision of project personnel, which includes work allocation, training, & problem solution; evaluates performance & makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity & performance
  • Overall project team of 50+ (NNPILP & Contract Employees)
  • Develops & manages project budgets & performs periodic cost & productivity analyses
  • Ensure project managers follow PS Shopfloor processes. Guide & coach as necessary
  • Participate in driving site strategy & solutions in relation to project execution as a member of the IFP Site SLT & Project Steering Committee Meetings
  • CAPA Forum Member
  • Other accountabilities, as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge ordinarily acquired through a BS/BA degree in engineering or related technical field. Advanced degree preferred; PMP preferred
  • Requires a minimum of six (6) years of proven & successful project management experience, including the following:
    • Skill in organizing resources & establishing priorities
    • Strong interpersonal skills & ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment
    • Ability to supervise & train employees, including organization, prioritizing & scheduling work assignments
    • Knowledge of organizational structure, staffing patterns & job design
    • Budget preparation & fiscal management
    • Advanced knowledge & understanding of Novo Nordisk core business & operating systems, policies, procedures
    • Advanced verbal & written communication skills
    • Ability to identify & assess business needs & coordinate effective operating & systems solutions
    • Skills in workflow analysis & management
    • Employee development & performance management skills
    • Highly organized, capable of managing various details & focus for tasks


Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in core work processes & GMP concepts
  • Understanding of complicated product documentation & standard operating procedures with attention to high-level concepts
  • Demonstrates functional/business understanding as well as superior written & oral communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of project management including the ability to create work plans & detailed project schedules
  • Proficient in problem solving, negotiation, conflict management & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to act as project lead & lead cross functional project teams in the development & implementation of projects
  • Ability to influence others on objectives & projects outcomes
  • Basic understanding of contractual documents
  • Ability to read/review design drawings (CAD) with a basic understanding of P&ID, HVAC & Electrical systems
  • Thorough understanding of technical documents such as URS, SAT, FAT & Validation Protocols
  • Proven expertise in mentoring & development of people leaders, change management, planning & organizing, managing execution, & revising work plans for complex issues addressed by cross-functional teams


Physical & Other Requirements

  • Occasionally moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions
  • Wear necessary personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hat, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer & other office equipment using hands
  • Ability to work in an open office environment with the possibility of frequent distraction
  • Ability to work the hours necessary to support a 24/7 continuous manufacturing operation
  • Ability to adjust schedule to work with colleagues in other international time zones
  • Ability to climb steps & safely traverse construction environment
  • Ability to travel domestically & internationally, as required
