The Position

The Senior Manager, Executive & Internal Communications leads internal communications strategy for Global Manufacturing & Supply U.S. sites, ensuring local site messaging aligns with global business priorities. This role manages a team of internal communicators who execute site-level strategies that strengthen company culture, enhance the employee experience, and translate strategic objectives for employees across U.S. manufacturing sites. The role connects employees to Novo Nordisk's purpose, strategy, and values through integrated communication plans that drive engagement and organizational alignment. As the primary strategic communications partner to the Global Vice President of U.S. Drug Product Manufacturing (DPM-US), this position provides counsel, planning, execution, and leadership support while overseeing communicators aligned to DPM site leaders and leadership teams. The role also leads the U.S. Manufacturing brand narrative and thought leadership agenda in partnership with key USO and Global stakeholders and serves as a strategic advisor to the Director of DPM-US Public Affairs & Communications, helping to prioritize issues, guide operations, and support executive decision-making.

 

Relationships

Reports to the Director of the DPM-US Public Affairs & Communications; Interacts with the GVP of Drug Product Manufacturing and the Senior Leadership Team.

 

Essential Functions

  • Lead internal communications strategy to strengthen understanding of company purpose, business priorities, culture, and values across DPM-US
  • Drive end-to-end planning and execution of employee communications and engagement initiatives aligned with enterprise and GMS strategy
  • Ensure consistent alignment of messaging across all DPM sites, leadership teams, and functional areas
  • Develop and deliver clear, timely, and empathetic communications on key business priorities and organizational topics
  • Assess communication needs and risks; design appropriate messaging strategies to support transparency and engagement
  • Evaluate effectiveness of communications programs using data and insights; implement continuous improvements
  • Promote the Novo Nordisk Way through strategic messaging, storytelling, and channel optimization
  • Ensure alignment and integration with GMS and Global Communications strategies and priorities
  • Serve as strategic communications advisor to the DPM-US Senior Leadership Team, supporting leadership forums and engagement
  • Lead executive communications (internal and external), ensuring consistency with enterprise messaging and priorities
  • Develop and execute executive thought leadership strategy, including key themes, narratives, and content roadmap
  • Drive the U.S. Manufacturing brand narrative in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders (GMS, DPM, USO)
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of internal communicators supporting site leaders and leadership teams
  • Provide expert counsel and coaching to senior leaders to enhance communication effectiveness and executive presence
  • Ensure executive readiness for key engagements (e.g., town halls, roadshows, leadership meetings)
  • Act as a strategic advisor to PA&C leadership, driving priorities, decision-making support, and cross-functional initiatives
  • Lead and coordinate high-impact projects across PA&C and DPM-US leadership teams
  • Partner with business leaders to align communication strategies with evolving priorities and organizational needs
  • Represent Communications in enterprise forums (e.g., NNI Integration Network) and act as liaison for Enterprise, Executive, and Corporate Communications within the US Communications Community
  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Other accountabilities as assigned

 

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in an open office environment with the possibility of frequent distraction. Ability to travel 10-20% of the time. (% can change on a case-by-case basis based on the role.)

 

Development Of People

Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field of study required; advanced degree preferred          
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of communications experience including corporate, agency experience and agency management required
  • A minimum of five (5) years of supervisor/management experience in communications required
  • Broad scope of Communications experience, with experience in public relations agency preferred
  • Visionary, yet pragmatic; a big-picture thinker who can also inform tactical decisions required
  • Demonstrated ability in leadership/collaboration skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision and engage people in that vision required
  • Experienced and seasoned executive coach and counselor required
  • Demonstrated ability to display expert level critical thinking in applying principles, theories and concepts on a wide range of problems required
  • Demonstrated success in creating strategic direction, plans and proven ability to drive and sustain business improvement and results required
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and counseling, executive communications and thought leadership, employee engagement programs, business and news writing, and communications measurement required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and influencers required
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks to the company’s reputation required
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team required
