In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains.  Our newer Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facility in Clayton, NC sits on 825,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art equipment, and houses the Fermentation, Recovery and Purification in the production of ingredients for Novo Nordisk’s innovative oral products.  At API, you’ll join a global network of manufacturing professionals who are passionate about what they do.

The Position

Responsible for one or more projects within area of tech transfer of pharmaceutical production processes, like filling, assembly/packaging, spray drying and tableting to Contract Manufacturing Organization/CMO's. Manage all aspects of cross organizational projects related to area of responsibility from conception through completion within scope, cost, quality, & schedule requirements. Manage strategy deployment, project execution & governance, stakeholder management, and driving changes.

Essential Functions

  • Execute assigned projects by directing execution, developing plans, monitoring progress, negotiating and managing resources, establishing and driving governance, reporting performance, controlling changes, and archiving key data
  • Provide progress reports outlining relevant issues, challenges, and constraints to higher level project management, project owner, steering group, etc.
  • Develop solid project plans to meet objectives, milestones, and costs while identifying required project resources and managing external partners and consultants
  • Set direction, manage, motivate, and coach project team members while assisting with any training required of all project personnel
  • Anchor benefit realization with process owners in line of business
  • Establish cross-functional project steering group to ensure relevant and efficient guidance to the project and right level of management attention
  • Reflect on and simplify business processes where applicable by identifying cost saving opportunities across the company, future area initiatives, new business areas, as well as driving future development
  • Ensure on-site support during implementation, transfer, and ramp-up of new &/or modified equipment
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through regular and structured communication, addressing stakeholder concerns by bridging expectation gaps and engaging in constructive dialogue, and facilitate open and productive meetings to ensure effective collaboration
  • Support with the selection of CMO’s
  • Provide cross organizational process, technique, or scientific information in due time to support internal and external stakeholders
  • Main contact to the CMO and other external partners
  • Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in an open office environment with the possibility of frequent distractions. Ability to travel up to 20% of the time. (% can change on a case-by-case basis based on the role).

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Pharmacy, Economics, Business Management, Project Management, or a relevant field of study from an accredited university required
  • Advanced Project Management competencies obtained through relevant PM training, experience, certifications (PMP, Green Belt or Black Belt Certifications) required
  • Minimum of nine (9) years of experience in proven management and/or project management skills in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing facility required
  • Ability to act as project lead & lead cross functional project teams in the development & implementation of projects required
  • Experience of production related projects (tech transfer, investment projects, Agile/LEAN projects, New Product introduction) required
  • Demonstrates functional/business understanding as well as superior written & oral communication skills required
  • Thorough understanding of technical documents such as URS, SAT, FAT & Validation Protocols preferred
  • Ability to influence others on objectives & projects outcomes required
  • Excellent process and technical understanding required
  • Knowledgeable in core work processes (aseptic production, assembly/packaging, spray drying and tableting) & GMP validation concepts preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with or at CMOs preferred
  • Initiative & ability to function independently or within a team required
