In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. Our legacy Injectable Finished Products (IFP) facility in Clayton, NC is a 457,000 square foot aseptic "fill and finish" site that is responsible for producing innovative, injectable diabetes and obesity treatments. The Position
This role will support core production processes and provide oversight of the construction safety program through leadership & support in attaining and sustaining a safe, secure, and environmentally sound working environment for all employees and contractors throughout all phases of Fill & Finish Expansion (FFEx). Manage and develop efficient & reliable Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) processes that meet customer & regulatory requirements in a cost-effective manner where safety first takes precedence. Assist with Risk Management, follow the NN Way – 10 Essentials and continuously improve EHS&S processes with a Zero Harm goal.
This role reports to the Sr. Manager, Facilities and will have collaborative and cross-functional relationships/responsibilities with EHS, DEQ, Global Security, and Rewards Operations, North America team.
Relationships
Reports to Senior Manager – Facilities Site Capacity.
Essential Functions
- Manage, motivate, and develop EHS&S team to support FFEx in all areas as related to each team members expertise
- Responsible for the site ISO14001 Environmental Management system and for managing the Environmental Coordinator, Energy Coordinator, Local Data Coordinator
- Lead role development and selection of core members to build the FFEx EHS&S team
- Ensure compliance to all OSHA regulations and all Federal, State, and local safety standards
- Responsible for the site ISO18001 OHSA Management system–Safety Coordinator
- Responsible for ISO 45001 Lead Auditor for Occupational Health and Safety
- Lead development of site environmental & safety objectives & targets
- Monitor & report site performance within environment & safety
- Responsible for site environmental permits (air, wastewater, stormwater, etc.)
- Advise, assist, analyze, and audit to mitigate EHS&S hazards, document findings and corrective actions in Action Item registry
- Responsible for site emergency response including equipment inspections & site drill coordination
- Establish & maintain waste management programs & ensure site compliance with the Resource Conservation & Recovery Act requirements
- Drive sustainability/Circular for Zero expectations throughout the FFEx including LEED credentialing
- Responsible for Industrial Hygiene and Construction Safety programs
- Identify & reduce EHS&S risks
- Work towards Circular Zero: Zero landfill, Zero wasted water/energy, Zero Harm
- Follow all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
- Other accountabilities, as assigned
Physical Requirements
May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role. May require color vision based on role. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights. Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials. May be required to wear latex gloves. May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site. May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role. Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection. May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license & operate a motorized vehicle based on the role.
Development of People
Supervisory, ensure that reporting personnel have Individual Development Plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant field of study from an accredited university required
- Minimum of ten (10) years of safety & environmental health experience required
- Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge of general state, federal & local safety & environmental regulations required
- Strong verbal & written communication skills required
- Good presentation & organizational skills preferred
- Proven process improvement & problem-solving skills preferred
- Computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office preferred
- Ability to develop & manage action plans to achieve target
