In NC, we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. Our newer Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facility in Clayton, NC sits on 825,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art equipment, and houses the Fermentation, Recovery and Purification in the production of ingredients for Novo Nordisk’s innovative oral products. The Position
The purpose of this position is to maintain Utility systems for the API-US facility. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: writing/reviewing specifications; design reviews; equipment installation; commissioning & qualifications; SOP development; maintenance development & training; management of cost, quality issues; schedule; establishing & maintaining positive working relationship with internal & external engineering team & stakeholders; re-validation, management of vendor & service contracts ensuring all activities are aligned with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) program requirements.

Essential Functions
- Train on systems, processes & related equipment
- Learn to create & maintain system specifications
- Support all design, installation, commissioning, qualification & training activities
- Provide additional technical support to team & project team as required
- Adhere to all Quality & Environmental regulations within area of responsibility
- Continuous process improvement on department owned systems using cLEAN® concepts
- Assist in developing & writing standards, procedures & maintenance plans
- All safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties
- Other accountabilities, as assigned
Physical Requirements
Moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. Routinely operates & inspects manufacturing equipment using hands. Ability to be on feet for up to a 12-hour shift. May require corrected vision to 20/25 based on role. May require color vision based on role. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights. Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials. May be required to wear latex gloves. Occasionally performs critical job functions in extremely cold work environments. Occasionally positions oneself within confined spaces for inspection, repair & maintenance of equipment. Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection. Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions. Able to pass a driving exam for powered industrial trucks. Does not require a valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial preferred) or equivalent combination of education & experience required
- Bachelor's degree in engineering/related field or anticipated Bachelor's degree in engineering/related field by 6/30/25 required, or within 12 months of application required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of work-related engineering experience in Manufacturing, Design, Maintenance or Process Improvement preferred
- Knowledge of Facilities Systems to include: chilled water, plant steam, compressed air, cooling water, freezers a plus
- Basic understanding of the following systems: Instrument & Electrical, Mechanical, Control/SCADA/PLCs, Process Improvement Methodologies, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) a plus
- Read, understand & interpret technical documents such as P&ID, PMD, SOPs, Equipment Specifications, CAD drawings a plus
- Computer literacy with standard business software (MS Word, Excel, PPT, MS Project) preferred
- Proficiency with task specific software & associated systems (MS Project, Solid Works, AutoCAD, SAP) a plus
- Proven knowledge in planning/organization/execution of project & maintenance activities & following up on results a plus
- Ability to revise work plans to countermeasure complex problem resolution conducted by cross functional teams a plus
