About the department
Novo Nordisk Japan's Medical Affairs team is at the forefront of scientific communication and strategic relationship-building. Reporting directly to the Corporate Vice President, Clinical, Medical, Regulatory, and Quality (CMRQ) Development, our department is responsible for establishing and executing scientific communication strategies across clinical trial phases. Our dynamic and collaborative environment ensures medical guidance through training and internal communication, enabling us to make a meaningful impact.
The position
As Senior Director, Medical Affairs, you will lead the medical affairs organization in Region Japan to achieve affiliate goals. You will represent Novo Nordisk Japan to key external stakeholders on product and therapy-related matters. Additionally, you'll provide medical expertise and leadership to internal stakeholders and committees, driving activities aligned with global focus areas.
- Develop and implement brand-level, therapy area, and portfolio-wide medical strategies, both pre-launch and throughout product life-cycle management.
- Co-develop launch and brand plans with commercial functions, aligning business strategies and medical expertise.
- Provide input on asset development plans, portfolio prioritization, regulatory actions, and data generation to inform business decisions.
- Build strong relationships with key leaders in medical and scientific communities and drive external medical communication using omni-channel approaches.
- Ensure impactful field medical interactions with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), aligned with commercial functions, and manage performance metrics for effectiveness.
- Lead and manage department teams, ensuring employee development, succession planning, budget management, and alignment with Novo Nordisk policies.
Qualifications
- MD degree or MSc/Ph.D. in natural sciences, combined with extensive corporate medical affairs experience and strong understanding of late-stage clinical trials.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with solid business acumen and in-depth knowledge of drug discovery, development, and commercialization.
- Solid scientific credibility, with the ability to establish relationships with top-tier leaders in medical and scientific communities and present complex issues objectively.
- Strong strategic thinker with the ability to identify business pressure points, define initiatives to address them, and navigate ambiguity while anticipating organizational needs.
- Proven ability to innovate, act as a change agent, and lead by presenting convincing organizational needs and solutions.
- Proven leadership and people management skills, with experience leading teams of scientists, medics, and pharmaceutical industry professionals, fostering mentorship and conflict resolution.
