The position
As the Product Owner, Data and Analytics at Novo Nordisk, it combines Product Owner type responsibilities with hand-on-implementation and supervising of engineering efforts.
you will have the following key responsibilities:
- Customer Engagement Data & Analytics (business domain): Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of all data products and analytics products related to commercial interactions with our customers through various channels, from design to maintenance and eventual deprecation. This includes the Customer Engagement Taxonomy (CET), a key Data Product which harmonizes, consolidates, categorizes, and applies specific counting and scoring logic to interaction data from various owned and third-party channels, serving as a Single Source of Truth for business consumption.
- Agile Product Ownership: Manage relationships and expectations with internal customers (e.g., other analytics product owners or business side analysts) who rely on your data and analytics products. Engage proactively to understand their priorities and needs, and how your data products create value for the business. Reflect this in a prioritized public backlog with estimates and high-level requirements. Ensure requirements are correctly captured and signed off by internal customers before initiating development and verify the implementation prior to facilitating the User Acceptance process. Ensure your products have sufficient business documentation, including definitions related to dimensions and KPIs. Proactively onboard key internal customers to promote use and value realization and participate in business forums where definitions and KPIs are discussed and decided.
- Data and Analytics Engineering: Implement and Maintain Data Products on our Snowflake-based Data Platform and Analytics Products in PowerBI, QlikSense, and/or Streamlit, through a combination of hands-on work and supervising work by junior engineers (usually vendor side), depending on the task. Ensure adherence to engineering principles and best practices on the Data Platform through alignment and collaboration with the local Platform Owner. Handle data ingestions and integrations to, from, and between the different parts of our Customer Engagement Platform, consisting of our field force CRM system, email marketing automation solution, event management solution, online customer portal, and aforementioned content tagging solution. Ensure an appropriate level of technical documentation related to the implementation.
- Leadership and Collaboration: Balance strategic product ownership responsibilities with detailed technical work. Manage your own budget and dedicated engineering capacity (approximately 0.5-1.5 FTE expected through vendor). Identify bottlenecks, flag resourcing risks, and negotiate timelines and resources based on the expectations of management and stakeholders. Collaborate with the Product Owners of the Customer Engagement Platform and other teams to ensure adequate support for both product and engineering tasks. Leverage resources such as dedicated engineering teams or additional product managers as needed. Represent Japan's efforts in the customer engagement data & analytics domain towards global stakeholders and align on our behalf. Participate in global alignment and knowledge-sharing meetings to ensure cohesive and integrated efforts across regions.
Qualifications
- Must have a minimum bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum 5 years of total professional experience, with at least:
3 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, business intelligence engineering and/or software engineering.
2 years of experience in proactive, stakeholder facing roles such as Project Manager or Product Owner.
2 years of experience from modern software development methodologies such as Scrum, SAFe and/or DevOps. - Strong proficiency in SQL, Python and dimensional modelling is mandatory. Experience from the following is considered a plus: Pharmaceutical Industry, global or multinational working environment, Budget and vendor management, SnowFlake (or similar) or dbt (or similar) or PowerBI (or similar).
- “Business First” mindset with strong interest and opinions on the business application of your data domain.
- Excellent English communication skills are mandatory; Japanese proficiency is strongly preferred.
