About the Department

 

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) serves as a critical strategic contributor in initiating and implementing field Medical Strategies in support of the Novo Nordisk Japan (NNPL) portfolio; aligned with the national Medical Affairs strategies and Global Medical Affairs guidance.

 

This position is a new headcount to work on the Rare Disease therapeutic area with other MSLs and Medical advisors in the team. As an MSL, you will be able to work very close to the actual patients, realizing how our products help those in need. The setup of this team includes both Medical Advisor and MSL in the same team, which shortens the time of insights being put into use. Also, since this team already has a very good relationship with other departments, you will see the seamless cooperation cross-functionally.

 

 

The Position

 

Medical Science Liaison (MSL) improves patients' lives by being the medical leaders through building and communicating the deepest medical knowledge and improving the medical benefits of our products. MSL is dedicated to executing and supporting NNPL therapeutic strategies aiming to improve patient outcomes and quality of care consistent with overall medical ambitions and NNPL policies.

The MSL functions actively to ensure building and maintaining strong scientific understanding of Novo Nordisk (NN) marketed products and to be accountable for the development of portfolio products. The MSL communicates up-to-date medical knowledge and clinical trial data with external stakeholders, and effectively respond to inaccurate competitive claims related to NN products in a scientifically accurate and consistent manner aligned with the overall Medical Strategies and direction. Leverages scientific and clinical expertise to create relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs). Identifies and develops strong and convincing speakers for our marketed products aligned with the Medical and Marketing Strategies.

 

  • Identifies, lists and communicates with KOLs and HCPs in the practice setting (e.g., academic centres, investigators, IISs research site) to update their understanding of relevant data in each context related to NNPL products, as well as to build and maintain relationships to facilitate scientific exchange on topics of relevance to NNPL.
  • Assists in identifying, engaging, and maintaining relations with KOLs and HCPs to establish and/or further the knowledge of NN products and their appropriate use; when necessary, assist in resolving issues pertaining to that use. Assists in identifying and answering to inquiries from KOLs and HCPs; assisting with identifying those individuals with novel research concepts, clinical experience and expertise, within identified therapeutic areas of interest to NNPL.
  • Gathers Medical insights regarding NN and competitors’ products from KOLs and HCPs to help inform NNPL decision-making bodies and update the Medical and/or Marketing Strategies if necessary. Participates in assigned medical and scientific meetings to maintain awareness of current issues and new data pertaining to NN and competitors’ products and to keep up medical booth in answering physicians’ scientific questions. Identifies and develops strong and convincing speakers for our marketed products aligned with the Medical Strategy.
  • Assist with the on-boarding of new MSLs where required, clinical trials by driving scientific discussion at site selection and site initiation visits where required and scientific dialogue with investigators at prioritized/requested sites and patient recruitment and retention of subjects where required. Assists regional Medical Representatives (MRs) in handling scientific and clinical questions for NN marketed products from KOLs and HCPs.
  • Participates in a series of internal medical/scientific trainings and regular scientific assessments to maintain general scientific knowledge and awareness of new data pertaining to NN and competitors’ products. Complies with all guidelines, policies, legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • An advanced degree in health sciences required. Master’s at minimum, Preferably Doctorate degree in Medical or Pharmacy disciplines preferred
  • Strong communication/negotiation skills required. 
  • Good computer skills (e.g. Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc) Knowledge and comprehension of local and corporate compliance and regulatory processes.
  • Extensive experience in the respective therapeutic area (e.g., haematology, diabetes, endocrinology, etc) is preferred.
  • Excellent English skills for reading understanding scientific literature.
