About The department
The Medical Affairs department at Novo Nordisk is devoted to improving patient outcomes and providing medical guidance to the organization. This position provides field leadership, coaching, mentoring and management for the Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), and develops and implements field-based strategies consistent with the overall Medical Affairs Strategy and methodical imperatives. Leads the MSL efforts in optimally manage NNPL relations with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and other key healthcare professionals (HCPs) to ensure strong scientific understanding of NN products, specifically with the provision of timely and up to date scientific information relevant to Novo Nordisk’s products or research activities; increase awareness and improve positioning of Novo Nordisk Pharma Limited (NNPL)’s products. 

 

The position

The MSL Manager will ensure the personal and professional development of the MSL team, as well as coordination and cooperation between the MSL team, the MSL Supervising Group Manager (SVM), and other relevant stakeholders. They will represent the MSL team internally within the affiliate and at external scientific events, creating business opportunities for the MSL function. The role involves initiating, fostering, and maintaining cross-functional communications and collaboration, ensuring a proper understanding of MSL roles and responsibilities by cross-functional departments. The role is expected to manage MSLs to act in full compliance with all laws, regulations, Business Ethics standards, and Novo Nordisk internal policies (SOPs).

  • Lead the MSL efforts to identify and work with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in cooperation with relevant stakeholders and consistent with overall Medical Strategies and direction.  Provides medical insights from KOLs/HCPs gathered by MSL and reports to SVM so that he/she can aggregate, analyse and report them to the senior management team and key internal stakeholders. Reviews, evaluates, and channels information to the appropriate NNPL personnel, if needed, and provides timely responses to requests from the MSLs for aiding in the various activities in their respective regions.
  • Acts, and is in-charge of others in his/her team acting, in complete and total compliance with all laws, regulations and policies; gives MSLs advice regarding compliance reporting. Ensure MSLs respond to on- and off-label questions from HCPs with highest integrity, compliance, and adherence to legal, regulatory and company guidelines, policies and procedures. Provides mentoring and builds the talents of MSL particularly with respect to knowledge of technical and scientific information, business practices, and communication and motivational skills.
  • Spends adequate field time with direct reports to coach and develop personnel and ensure that unit objectives are being met. Assists direct reports in setting/reviewing annual goals and coaching them on IDPs. Prepares with MSLs for field medical events which are supposed to be initiated by the team: reviewing agendas and decks. Actively manages the field medical team by putting the right people on the right projects, based on their capacity/skill/interest/capability. Communicates NNPL policies, procedures, organizational changes to direct reports and answers team’s questions.
  • Works with Sr. MSL to evaluate the field performance of MSLs on-site and provides timely and constructive feedback and guidance. Assists SVM in planning and executing internal scientific trainings, business meetings, etc., for MSLs. Takes a leadership role in managing activities at assigned medical and scientific meetings and symposia. Helps MSLs deliver presentations with speakers appropriately and ensures alignment with NN strategy.
  • Takes a leadership role in resourcing activities, including the allocation of personnel, speaker training, sales, and ensuring the appropriate use of NNPL products. Ensures that direct reports know the business priorities, focus their work on those priorities, and is fully aware of their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.


Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Science, master’s degree or above in pharmaceutical science is preferred.
  • Experience in related therapeutic area (e.g. cardiovascular, diabetes, endocrinology, nephrology) and experience as MSL is highly preferred. 
  • Strong track record of success in team management.
  • Strong communication/negotiation skills are highly required.
  • Intermediate level of English ability (especially on writing and reading) is required.
