Medical Science Liaison (MSL) contributes to this process by serving as medical leaders through building and communicating in-depth medical knowledge and improving the medical benefits of our products. MSL is dedicated to executing and backing Novo Nordisk Japan’s therapeutic strategies aiming to improve patient outcomes and quality of care consistent with overall medical ambitions and Novo Nordisk Japan policies.
You will work at the Medical Affairs Group focusing on Diabetes, Obesity and MASH with other MSL colleagues.
The position
The MSL functions actively to ensure the building and maintaining of strong scientific understanding of Novo Nordisk (NN) marketed products and to support the development of portfolio products. The MSL communicates up-to-date medical knowledge and clinical trial data with external stakeholders and effectively responds to inaccurate competitive claims related to Novo Nordisk products in a scientifically accurate and consistent manner aligned with the overall Medical Strategies and direction. Leverages scientific and clinical expertise to create relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs). Identifies and develops strong and convincing speakers for our marketed products aligned with the Medical and Marketing Strategies.
Some of your key activities will be to:
- Identifies, lists and communicates with KOLs and HCPs in the practice setting (e.g., academic centres, investigators, research site) to update their understanding of relevant data in each context related to Novo Nordisk Japan products. Build and maintain relationships to facilitate scientific exchange on topics of relevance to NN.
- Assists in identifying, engaging, and maintaining relations with KOLs and HCPs to establish and/or further the knowledge of NN products and their appropriate use; when necessary, assist in resolving issues pertaining to that use. Also, assisting with identifying those individuals with novel research concepts, clinical experience and expertise within identified therapeutic areas of interest to Novo Nordisk Japan.
- Gathers Medical insights regarding Novo Noridsk and competitors’ products from KOLs and HCPs to help inform Novo Nordisk Japan decision-making bodies and update the Medical and/or Marketing Strategies if necessary. Participates in assigned medical and scientific meetings to maintain awareness of current issues and new data pertaining to NN and competitors’ products and to support medical booths. Also, identifies and develop strong and convincing speakers for our marketed products aligned with the Medical Strategy.
- Assists regional Medical Representatives (MRs) in handling scientific and clinical questions for NN marketed products from KOLs and HCPs and backing the onboarding of new MSLs where required.
- Backing clinical trials by driving scientific discussion at site selection and site initiation visits where required. Backing scientific dialogue with investigators at prioritized/requested sites and patient recruitment and retention of subjects.
Qualifications
- An advanced degree in health sciences is required. Master’s at minimum, Doctorate degree in Medical or Pharmacy disciplines preferred. (MSL experience is required if the highest education is a bachelor's degree.)
- Strong communication/negotiation skill is required.
- Strong knowledge of the relevant therapeutic area is preferred. (e.g. diabetes, obesity, endocrinology, cardiology, hepatology, nephrology etc)
- Excellent English skills for reading understanding scientific literature. Fluent in written and spoken English strongly is preferred. Native-level proficiency in Japanese is required.
