About the Department
The Strategy & Rare Disease (STARS) organization drives the long-term strategic direction of Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI)/North America Operations (NAO) and leads all US commercial efforts for Novo Nordisk’s Rare Disease portfolio. The mandate of STARS is to facilitate the development and to coordinate the execution of the long-term strategy, defining a sustainable business model in US beyond a 5-year time horizon. This department serves as the insiders of the US market when informing and help shaping upstream decisions around future investments and assets. The Rare Disease portfolio includes products in the hemophilia and growth disorders therapeutic areas, new products in the pipeline, and products acquired through business development efforts in existing and new areas. The STARS team collaborates and partners with groups across NAO, Research & Early Development, Development, innovation hubs across NN, other affiliates, and global. The Position
This field-based position is responsible for sales of Sogroya and Norditropin to practicing physicians, nurses, hospitals, managed care and other health-related personnel within an assigned territory. Requires the development of strategically targeted, account-specific business plans that reflect an in-depth understanding of local, regional and national market forces that impact product sales. Within Novo Nordisk (NNI) policy guidelines provide the most current information relevant to Norditropin products and their approved indication(s) in a manner which ensures their appropriate use in optimizing the business potential o the territory.
Relationships
Reports to the Regional Director - Rare Endocrine. External relationships include those with the following: Pediatric Endocrinologists, Pediatric Endocrinology Nurses, Specialty Pharmacies, wholesalers/distributors and Patient and Professional Associations. Internally, this position will collaborate with STARS Medical Liaisons, and STARS Account Managers.
Essential Functions

- Maintains records of samples in accordance with NNI policy
- Prepares and submits a monthly report detailing goals and accomplishments
- Play a role with Marketing in identifying market needs (through internal and external customers) to support the development of a revised Formulary Kit, consistent with AMCP guidelines and NNI policies
- Supports the Regional Director - Rare Endocrine in planning and implementing regional functions/POA meetings which include: product information updates and sharing of field intelligence information, actively leads/participates in open presentations and discussions regarding marketing and/or sales plans
- Acts as the regional champion for the introduction of marketing programs and product launches
- Anticipates potential trends and changes in market conditions in order to identify broader areas of opportunity (e.g. new indications, support services) for the Company
- Employs initiative and creativity to gain access and establish Norditropin as a product of choice for accounts
- Establishes and broadens NNI awareness as a leader in Growth Hormone
- Organizes and participates in meetings, exhibits and conventions to create sales/marketing opportunities and to establish sound business relationships with our customer base
- Provides comprehensive market/competitive information
- Serves as a liaison to associations and other customer groups to to enhance the professional ties between NNI and these groups
- Serves in an advisory capacity as it relates to marketing program/sales collateral development
- Achieve or exceed assigned sales objectives through effective utilization of all available resources, strategies and tactics
- Collaborates with Account Executive colleagues to plan, organize and deliver effective and approved presentations to achieve product formulary consideration and acceptance
- Develops and expands relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, Local and national patient and professional associations, and Trade accounts
- Develops and implements a business plan to create a pull-through of Norditropin, consistent with regional sales and corporate marketing plans
- Identifies key target accounts including leading academic institution practices and private practices which treat growth hormone deficient patients
- Maintains a strong work ethic, working effectively both independently and in a team/matrix organization
- Maintains complete and accurate data with respect to physicians, nurses, managed care and trade accounts through the use of a company provided computer and Veeva software
- Activities and actions are consistent with company policies
- Activities are consistent with business plans that meet relevant customer needs and achieve our business objectives
- Utilizes effective planning along with specific, targeted, customer-focused call objectives
- Prioritizes accounts to optimize ROI
Physical Requirements
50-75% overnight travel required; Driver must maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be in good standing by not exceeding the Novo Nordisk points threshold assigned based on review of Motor Vehicle Records.
Qualifications
- A bachelors degree required
- Minimum five (5) years pharmaceutical / healthcare sales (Endocrinology / Growth Disorders product experience preferred) OR a minimum five (5) years relevant experience in endocrinology required
- Managed Care selling experience is highly desirable
- Expert knowledge of the growth disorders market preferred
- Ability to facilitate trust and understanding
- An aptitude for learning and communicating technical and scientific product and disease management information
- Decision-making ability and leadership skills are required
- Energetic, flexible, enthusiastic and highly motivated
- Intermediate computer skills required (Windows, Word, Excel)
- Must be a self-starter and be able to evaluate options, make decisions, and operate your business activities with minimal supervision
- Prior computer experience using sales data/call reporting software preferred
This position is part of a job family. Title and level within the job family are evaluated based on a number of factors, such as years of experience, scope of work, proficiency, and business need. Candidates will be assessed for the most appropriate title and level within the job family during the recruitment process. The base range of pay for each title in this job family are as follows:
Rare Endocrine Therapy Manager $ 96,670 to $ 178,840
Sr Rare Endocrine Therapy Manager $ 116,810 to $ 216,100
In addition, this position is eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
