The Position

This position will take a supervisory role in maintenance activities within the Process group. The incumbent will lead and develop the maintenance team of four to eight technicians in the proper execution of complex maintenance, required paperwork, complex trouble shooting, and drafting of deviations related to equipment failures. Other duties include utilizing the performance evaluation system to develop the team, drafting SOPs, and creating maintenance procedures. The Maintenance Supervisor must use judgment within generally defined guidelines to identify problems, craft solutions, and interact with other departments to promote a team-oriented work environment.

Essential Functions

  • Use hand tools, power tools, and delicate testing equipment in performance of duties
  • Complete basic maintenance procedures with minimal supervision
  • Complete complex maintenance activities with limited supervision
  • Complete maintenance request work orders for regulated and unregulated systems
  • Effective documentation of preventive maintenance within cGMP guidelines
  • Complete equipment activation following established procedure
  • Schedule preventive maintenance work assigned to team monthly
  • Schedule self, team, and contractors
  • Escort contractors through facility for routine deliveries or inspections, ensuring they complete activities per procedure or agreements
  • Oversee team and coordinate contractors to ensure quality of work and adherence to safety guidelines
  • Recommend facility improvements to meet OSHA safety, ISPE, or FDA guidelines and improve efficiency
  • Create maintenance procedures and update existing procedures to match best practices and lessons learned
  • Serve on Safety Committee, Environmental Engagement Committee, or other corporate responsibility areas
  • Complete documentation to generate effective change controls and deviations. Participate in an audit both as department representative and audit team
  • Identify and order spare or replacement parts for equipment utilizing inventory management system
  • Train others on procedures and best practices
  • Set priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors for up to 2+ months in advance
  • Decisions guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives guidance and oversight from manager
  • Lead team members to improve and reinforce performance of others
  • Take responsibility for direct reports’ performance by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring constructive feedback, and addressing performance-related concerns and issues promptly
  • Work with, coach, and support direct reports in developing knowledge, skills, and abilities in the interest of performance improvement and employee’s career development
  • Follow all safety and environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per day. May be exposed to inclement weather or be required to work in environments or under conditions that require the use of protective gear and/or awareness of personal safety and safety of others. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing ladders/steps, reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen, reaching with hands and arms, talking, writing, listening. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, carrying, grasping. Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 80 pounds. Must comply with EHS responsibilities for the position. Working conditions will be heating ventilation and air condition controlled. There will be limited periods of work outside exposed to the environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, preferred
  • Master’s degree, preferred
  • OSHA 10 or equivalent, preferred
  • PE/Registered Engineer, Preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant Project Engineering experience
  • 2+ years in a regulated industry (Life Sciences, preferred)
  • Prior Supervisory Experience
  • Technical Requirements:
    • Familiarity with cGMP regulatory requirements for biopharmaceutical manufacturing
    • Knowledge of PLC programs and ladder logic is a plus
    • Knowledge of GMP regulations, 21 CFR parts 210 and 211, EU regulations and ISO Standards
    • Prior knowledge in drafting SOPs and executing procedures
    • Mechanical and electrical aptitude
    • Good oral and written communication skills
