The Position

The Manager, Cost Accounting, is tasked with supervising the month-end closing process concerning the cost and inventor, and ensuring reporting is accurate and timely.   This role emphasizes continuous im-provement and involves providing leadership to department staff.  Furthermore, the Manager will serve as a key business partner to senior leaders at the Bloomington site, collaborating to drive strategic financial decisions.

Reports to Director, Finance.

 

Essential Functions

  • Cost of Goods Sold (COGS): Analyze and report COGS across manufacturing operations, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial plans. Collaborate with production, supply chain, and finance teams to drive cost transparency and variance analysis. Provide insights on trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Inventory Accounting: Oversee inventory valuation, reconciliation, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards. Monitor and improve controls around inventory transactions, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes. Manage inventory adjustments and coordinate closely with operations on inventory accuracy.
  • Reserves & Adjustments: Develop and maintain methodologies for excess and obsolete inventory reserves, including quarterly calculations and adjustments. Ensure reserves reflect current business conditions and risks. Partner with FP&A and commercial teams on product lifecycle impacts and supply planning.
  • Standard Costing: Lead annual standard cost roll processes, including material, labor, and over-head allocations. Maintain cost structures and ensure cost models reflect operational realities. Analyze variances between standard and actual costs and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Reporting & Controls: Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities related to cost accounting. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of journal entries, account reconciliations, and internal reporting. Maintain compliance with internal controls (SOX), policies, and procedures.
  • Business Partnership & Projects: Act as a financial advisor to manufacturing, supply chain, and procurement teams. Support capital investment projects, operational planning, and cost efficiency initiatives. Drive continuous improvement in cost accounting processes, systems, and analytics
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements

  • 100% work scheduled based on-site at Bloomington, Indiana facility.
  • Ability to sit at a desk.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study from an accredited university, required
    CPA, CMA, or MBA, preferred.
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience in cost accounting, required.
  • Experience within a manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment, preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS, inventory accounting, and cost modeling, required.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and advanced Excel skills, required.
  • Adaptability and continuous learning, required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail, required.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with various teams, required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, required.
  • Desire to coach, required.
