The Position

The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing and tracking costs related to the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products. This position will involve maintaining financial records and contributing to the preparation of financial statements, reporting and internal controls. The Cost Accountant collaborates closely with the accounting team and various other departments to ensure reporting is both timely and accurate.

Essential Functions

  • Inventory Accounting: Monitor and maintain accurate inventory records across raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods. Reconcile inventory accounts, in-vestigate variances, and ensure alignment with physical inventory counts. Partner with Supply Chain and Operations teams to ensure inventory transactions are properly recorded and controlled.
  • Inventory Reserves: Assist in the calculation of reserves for excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory in accordance with company policy. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather inputs for reserve analysis and support documentation of assumptions. Contribute to monthly and quarterly close processes by preparing reserve schedules and related journal entries.
  • Standard Cost Roll: Support the execution of the annual standard cost roll, including updates to labor, overhead, and material costs. Maintain cost components and ensure bills of materials (BOMs) and routings are accurate in the ERP system. Analyze standard versus actual cost variances and provide insights to support operational improvements.
  • Financial Reporting & Controls: Assist with month-end close activities related to inventory and cost accounting. Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and internal reports to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Adhere to internal control requirements and assist with audit documentation as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and support opportunities for improving accuracy and efficiency in cost accounting processes. Participate in cross-functional projects, system enhancements, and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements

  • 100% work scheduled based on-site at Bloomington, Indiana facility.
  • Ability to sit at a desk 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study from an accredited university, required
  • One (1) year of experience in accounting or finance, with a strong understanding of general accounting principles, required
  • Knowledge of financial accounting, financial statements, and reconciliations, required
    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, required
    ERP system experience, preferred
    Adaptability and continuous learning, required
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail, required
    Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with various teams, required
    Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, required
