Novo Nordisk Research Centre China was established in Beijing in 1997. It is the first R&D center established by multinational corporation in China. It applies a world-class technology platform to numerous new drug research projects in the fields of diabetes, obesity, CVD and NASH.  INNOVO open innovation platform was launched in 2019 to enable Novo Nordisk to work with Chinese drug research and biotech partners to deliver innovative drug discovery in serious chronic metabolic diseases and bring best treatments to patients around the globe.  Over the years, NNRCC has become an integrated part of Novo Nordisk’s global R&D. Its research departments include Drug Research Biology and Drug Research Technology.  The Operations team is an essential part of business support function where this position is located.

 

The position

 

We are currently seeking a conscientious and experienced candidate to take the position of Lab Operations Manager and play a key role in managing on-site outsourcing professional and service teams to support NNRCC research units, which are an integral part of Novo Nordisk’s global drug research technologies.  The candidate will also be a strong individual contributor, managing biosample shipments to ensure imported biosamples would pass customs expert committee reviews and government on-site inspections.  The position reports to NNRCC Head of Operations and is based in Beijing.

 

Job responsibilities

 

  • Lead lab operations team with approximately 20 outsourcing staff to become a business partner in providing fit-for-purpose lab services to research teams, developing and updating local standard operation procedures (LOPs) in lab support, lab cleaning and biowaste disinfection at BSL-2 labs, and effectively communicating in NNRCC to ensure implementation.
  • Establish and update the procedure of quality control on the Lab Operations Team, and ensure staff to be properly trained and coached to provide high quality & excellent services.
  • Develop and update local standard operation procedures (LOPs) on biological sample shipment, effectively communicate in NNRCC and ensure implementation. Comply with local policies and regulations, and proactively monitor relevant policies for NNRCC benefits.
  • Manage lab equipment to ensure all Lab equipment is in good condition, develop and update LOPs of Lab equipment management.
  • Participate into NNRCC Biosafety Expert Group to assess and approve risk assessments of procured and imported biosamples.
  • Work with Head of Operations, to analyze gaps and propose innovative solutions for improving NNRCC lab operations with effective management procedures, standards and guidelines as well as fostering change management if needed to develop good habit in labs.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree or above in Life Science or biological sciences.
  • At least 5 years lab operations/management or relevant research experience in chemical, biotech or pharma industry.
  • Proven experience of influencing key stakeholders for implementing lab management activities and process improvement.
  • Proven experience of interacting with authorities at different levels.
  • Project management experience and track record of independently initiating project for improving lab management systems or operations is a plus.
  • Pharma/drug regulations and IP experience is a plus.

  • Strong quality minded and robust methodology in related biosample regulations and inspections, and experience in quality area is a plus.
  • People organizing and multi-tasking ability.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity.
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English.
