Novo Nordisk Global Business Services – is looking for Senior Computational Biologist & Drug Design scientist, responsible for meta-data management of early research Bioinformatics data using prescribed ontologies.


About the department

The newly established department of Data Integration & Ontologies – Bangalore is an expansion of the department of Data Integration & Ontology in Måløv. This team aims at digitization of data from early research. With FAIR principles as the foundation, the department aims at simplifying the process of data capture using semantic models to establish interoperability across data sets from pre-clinical research. The long-term vision of the department is to create a digital mindset by driving the adoption of FAIR principles across the pipeline. This department plays a key role in the intersection between research scientists, application developers and data modelers. The team will act as a liaison among these groups to ensure the quality and consistency of data being generated while showcasing strong gains from analytics models using clean data


The position

As a Senior Computational Biologist & Drug Design scientist you will be responsible for developing and supporting data ingestion, meta data harmonization & integration. Together with maintaining the data lineage of the curated information.


You will be contributing in enrichment and expansion of public ontologies for NovoNordisk needs through identification of gaps in the harmonized meta-data. You will also be responsible for securing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) within ontology enrichment, meta-data management & bio-curation.

You will be responsible for performing mining through meta-data management. Further collaborating with data owners and data analysts to ensure data is complete, accurate and timely.  Furthermore participating in projects progression with Bioinformatics, Bio-ontologies, metadata management and data integration. While contributing to the evaluation of relevant targets and ideas & engineering of relevant therapeutic compounds.

Coordinating training activities for the scientists in Global Research Technologies/Global Drug Discovery in the use of ontologies and the need for FAIR data. Further connecting with global consortiums for different ontologies, the GoFAIR organization and other co-ordinated data management efforts in public.

This position requires you to be highly self-motivated, innovative, having a global mind-set, creative trouble shooting experience, with flexible attitude, and a problem solver.



Below are the required skills.

  • Bachelor’s (in Technology) with relevant experience or equivalent knowledge through relevant practical experience.
  • PhD degree or equivalent experience within Bioinformatics, metadata management and data integration
  • Above 2 years of experience within metadata management and data integration. Coding using Python/R, familiarity with AWS/Azure pipelines
  • Flexible and constructive attitude towards change
  • Team player capable of collaborating with multiple global stakeholders
