About the department

The Data Office is a recently established unit in Global IT with a direct link into the Digital, Data and IT Committee but acting as the counterpart for Line of Business. The focus of the Data Office is to detail and execute Novo Nordisk’s Global Data Strategy to unlock the full potential of data across the enterprise.

Therefore, the Data Office is responsible for developing the Data Foundation capabilities and enable acceleration of business value delivery of various strategic initiatives through their adoption together with implementing data governance for key data domains across the organisation’s data landscape.

As it’s a new unit, the number of employees is growing continuously, aligned to the speed of maturity of the data capabilities within the organisation. 


The position

The Principal Data Architect in Data Office bears the responsibility on behalf of the VP, Head of Data Office to foster value creation by designing and building scalable enterprise solutions for solving specific business challenges through a combination of Data Foundation Capabilities like Data Catalog, Meta Data Management, Data Architecture and Enterprise Data Model as well as other relevant IT capabilities.

In doing so, the Principal Data Architect is responsible for building holistic, scalable and reusable solutions for solving a specific business challenge but also contributing to building the enterprise data foundation. Principal data architect also brings functional knowledge while designing innovative solutions and acts as an advisor for data architecture to specific Line of Business (LoB) e.g. Finance, Commercial, Legal & Procurement or Research & Development (to be decided on individual skill set / experience) supporting the overall digital transformation journey.



Main tasks will include:

•       Architecture / subject-matter expert role in related initiatives and guide the solutioning and implementation of capabilities for specific Line of Business

•       Providing technical expertise and guidance for all the components that ensure enterprise-wide alignment and transparent data management

•       Takeover the solution owner role for Data Foundation Capabilities support implementation with internal project teams i.e. the capabilities owners, data partners as well as implementation partners



To be confident in this role, we believe you should have:

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in information science, computer science or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience as an enterprise, solution or information architect with focus on data solutions, ideally from Pharma, Finance or Retail industry driving enterprise-wide projects, operating and influencing effectively across the organisation and within complex contexts
  • Exposure to data management tools (Informatica, AbInitio or other) would be an advantage, but is not a must
  • Experience with assessing and implementing enterprise-wide data management tools and data models
