We are looking for an IT & Automation Specialist with strong experience in industrial automation systems and OT/IT integration within a regulated (GxP) environment. The role focuses on PLC and DCS platforms, secure OT system architecture, industrial networking, and reliable operation of automation systems supporting manufacturing. Your new role
As IT & Automation Specialist you will work in a highly skilled environment and play a key role in shaping automation solutions that support the future of pharmaceutical manufacturing
Your key responsibilities will include:
Automation Platforms & Control Systems
- Act as technical lead within automation, ensuring robust, scalable, and compliant solutions across production and utility systems.
- Drive automation activities across projects from equipment upgrades to large‑scale capacity expansions, working with ABB 800xA, Emerson DeltaV, and Siemens Automation platforms.
- Provide technical leadership across e.g. PLC, SCADA, HMI, DCS,
- Define, implement, and maintain automation standards and best practices to support scale‑up from prototype or pilot installations to full‑scale GMP production
- Troubleshoot complex automation and control system issues in production environments.
OT / IT Architecture & Security
- Design and maintain secure OT architectures aligned with ISA/IEC 62443 principles and internal cybersecurity standards.
- Implement and maintain IT/OT network segmentation, including zones, conduits, and industrial DMZs.
- Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams on firewall configuration, access control, patch management, system hardening, and backup, restore, and disaster recovery for OT systems.
Data Integration & Historian Interfaces
- Support GxP‑compliant data interfaces from PLC and DCS systems to historian and reporting platforms.
- Contribute to data availability for AVEVA PI, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and compliance.
Compliance & Documentation
- Work in accordance with GxP requirements, ALCOA+ principles, and validation standards.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, specifications, SOPs, configuration documentation, and validation material (IV/OV/PfV).
- Support internal and external audits and inspections.
Collaboration & Support
- Act as a technical interface between Automation, Engineering, IT, Quality, and external vendors.
- Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for automation and OT infrastructure issues.
- Contribute to standardization, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Your skills & qualifications
We are looking for an experienced specialist with a degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, IT, or a similar technical discipline. You also bring:
- Proven hands‑on experience with:

- Siemens PLC systems
- ABB 800xA and/or Emerson DeltaV
- Industrial communication protocols and networking (Profinet, Modbus, OPC, Ethernet)
- Strong understanding of OT/IT security, automation architecture, and industrial networks.
- Experience working in a GxP‑regulated manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with historian systems (e.g. AVEVA PI) is an advantage, but not a primary requirement.
As a person, you bring a structured and analytical approach to problem‑solving, combined with a strong sense of ownership and a quality‑driven mindset. You are comfortable taking technical leadership responsibility within automation and communicate effectively across both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. In addition, you confidently in cross‑functional and regulated environments.
Your new department
You will join Chemistry, Manufacturing & Control (CMC) Pilots Engineering, part of CMC Pilots within the CMC Development organisation. CMC Development plays a key role in Novo Nordisk’s value chain by turning molecules into approved products in close collaboration with Research & Development and Global Manufacturing & Supply.
CMC Pilots supports the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) for clinical trials and is critical to enabling product development and smooth transfer to commercial production.
You will be part of the Engineering Project department, consisting of more than 80 colleagues, delivering complex investment and major projects that expand and modernise pilot capacity. The department works in a collaborative, project‑driven environment where engineering, quality, and science are closely integrated to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable manufacturing.
