In a time of increasingly complex geopolitical dynamics, the ability to effectively navigate and respond to global challenges is essential for businesses like Novo Nordisk. We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join our Global Public Affairs & Government Relations team as the Director of Geopolitical Strategy. 

 

The Position

In this pivotal role, you will provide critical insights that drive strategic decision-making and develop proactive responses to geopolitical risks that may affect Novo Nordisk’s operations and business objectives.

 

Your expertise will help shape our strategies ensuring that we remain resilient and adaptable in the face of geopolitical shifts. You will be a key advisor to senior leadership, assessing potential scenarios and their implications to safeguard and propel our mission to drive change to defeat serious chronic diseases.

 

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to navigate various geopolitical scenarios, collaborating with Novo Nordisk senior leadership to ensure alignment and integration across the company
  • Enhance and operationalise Novo Nordisk’s geopolitical risk management framework, focusing on key regions such as the US, China, and Europe to ensure proactive anticipation of challenges and opportunities
  • Utilise independent judgment to identify, assess, and address emerging geopolitical issues that could impact our business operations, enabling timely and informed responses
  • Communicate insights on global policy trends effectively to senior leadership, fostering informed strategic decision-making processes within the organisation
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and risk assessments of geopolitical developments and legislative changes while developing strategies to mitigate potential risks
  • Build and leverage external relationships to gather insights on emerging trends, governmental priorities, and geopolitical risks affecting our operations
  • Prepare essential resources such as white papers, advocacy briefs, and strategic reports for internal stakeholders, empowering affiliates and senior leaders with valuable information
     


Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Business Administration, or a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in government, public policy, international relations, or related fields; experience in the life sciences or pharmaceutical sectors is a plus
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to analyze and simplify complex policy information into actionable insights and concise documents
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a collaborative mindset, with a track record of effectively working across international teams and stakeholders
  • Experience in scenario planning and strategic foreseeing, particularly in contexts relevant to senior executives
  • A robust understanding and demonstrated experience in conducting risk assessments related to global trade, policy developments, and foreign investments
