Postdoc for Chromatography Process Research

Category:  Research
Location:

Bagsværd, Capital Region of Denmark, DK

Have you worked with modelling of adsorption processes and used Akta or similar FPLC platforms? Are you interested in peptide interaction and adsorption phenomena, and are you willing to take a deep dive into the underlying biophysics? Then you could be our new colleague in Downstream Development. We offer at two-year position as Postdoc within adsorptive behaviour of peptides in process chromatography.

The Position

During process development for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) we often see non-ideal behaviour in the shape of unusual chromatograms and stability/solubility issues. This is caused by a combination of self-association phenomena like oligomer formation, aggregation, and other peptide-solvent-surface interactions.

You will drive the search for explanations, mechanisms, and hopefully solutions to some of these problems. Ideally, we want to incorporate a sufficient mechanistic description of self-association into the adsorption models and understand how to apply it. You will be working together with a group of colleagues very experienced in the fields of chromatography, peptide chemistry, and mechanistic modelling.

In this Postdoc position you will:

  • Become our expert in peptide self-association by combining advanced analytics with theory
  • Apply your knowledge through the development of adsorption models for our chromatography platform
  • Work in an enthusiastic and dedicated industrial research environment

This job gives you a great opportunity to apply what you have learned at a high level and with major impact on future API processes.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you have:

  • A PhD in chemical engineering
  • Worked with mechanistic modelling of complex systems based on experimental data
  • Knowledge of protein/peptide thermodynamics and biophysics, including analytical methods for characterization.
  • Good communication skills in English

You have the capacity to establish methodologies and conduct experiments utilizing an Akta Pure or a comparable system. You possess the skill to develop and decipher mathematical models rooted in differential equations, and use software like Julia, Matlab, and Python. Collaborating with technical and scientific peers, you drive and shape projects, presenting complex ideas in a clear way to get everyone engaged.

About the Department

The job is placed in CMC API Development located in Bagsværd, Denmark. Our main responsibility is to develop manufacturing processes for new proteins and peptides in close collaboration with the research and manufacturing units. You will be part of a small research group in Downstream Development focusing on expanding our knowledge and developing our model platform.
